By becoming a Divemaster or taking your Instructor Development Course (IDC) with Roatan Dive Academy, powered by Subway Watersports, a PADI 5-Star Resort and Instructor Development Center on Roatan off the Honduras Caribbean coast, travelling the world whilst experiencing new cultures, landscapes and underwater wonders could be your daily routine.
During your internship, you will be trained and ready to join the exciting world of professional scuba diving. Being a PADI Instructor will open doors to unbelievable adventures, where no day resembles the other. The work opportunities range from teaching on the beach on remote islands, staffing live-aboards or cruise ships, hotel resorts or doing maintenance diving in aquariums. You could become part of the PADI PRO family, which certifies hundreds of scuba instructors every year and is the leading diving association in the world with 70% of the market. This means that you will have even more job openings all around the world!
At Roatan Dive Academy, we pride ourselves in conducting IDC’s in the most stress free possible way, fun but still highly professional and educational. We simply love passing our passion onto future instructors. The Roatan Dive Academy crew will use all their extensive experience and knowledge to help you on your path of becoming a professional PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor, in an ideal location and perfect learning environment.
We believe in keeping our IDC classes small (6 candidates maximum) to facilitate personal interaction and to provide any special one-on-one attention that a candidate may need or desire to develop experience.
Our IDC program is more than enough preparation for the Instructor Exam. We believe in career development and preparing our candidates for their professional life after the Instructor Exam (IE). Our focus is on real life application, teaching you how to use your skills in the local environment and in those areas where you will choose to continue your career.
Here on the Caribbean island of Roatan, Honduras, we offer you two options. If you are a Divemaster with the prerequisite 100 logged dives, you may enroll into the 13 day IDC program which is held monthly.
We schedule the IDC to coincide with an Instructor Examination that is held either in Roatan or Utila. This helps to maximize your experience and give you the ability to begin instructing. Should you feel like you are not quite ready as a Divemaster and need some more experience or the ability to log additional dives, we can help you to refresh your skills and knowledge through our Instructor Internship program.
If time is a consideration, we can offer a limited program where you are able to complete the Assistant Instructor and/or Emergency First Response Instructor.
Because your time is valuable, PADI has made eLearning another option for professional candidates. Through this online service you can revise your dive theory knowledge, or complete about 1/3 of the IDC theory in advance of the course. This is a premium service that allows you to learn online at home and reduce your time in the IDC classroom, where we can spend more time in the water. If you are interested in this option, click on the eLearning link in the box on the right side. If you decide to do the eLearning you will be able to spend about 4 days during the IDC fun diving or enquire about a shortened IDC program.
