Join the adventure industry and become a Divemaster on the Caribbean island Roatan, Honduras. Experience a new career that lets you work at the most exotic locations around the world.
A career as a PADI Divemaster or SCUBA Instructor is nothing less than spending your working life exploring and guiding others through a precious part of the underwater world.
To maintain high quality training we limit the amount of interns to a maximum of 10. You will be trained by multiple Staff Instructors and/or our experienced Course Director. All interns will be living in the same house, for FREE.
Check out internship availabilities in specific months and get to know the current and future Divemaster Interns.
For an Open Water Diver to attain the professional level of Divemaster, an 8 week internship is recommended.
If you are entering our program as an Advanced Open Water Diver, we recommend 6 or 7 weeks to complete your Divemaster internship, depending on your number of logged dives.
For Rescue Certified divers, 4 or 5 weeks is typically enough time, again, depending on your number of logged dives.
You may be able to finish the course work sooner but gaining experience is the most important (and fun) part of the internship.
If you are certified with an agency other than PADI, we can convert your current certification to the PADI system with no additional time or expense.
Accommodation is included in the Divemaster internship and Instructor programs. You will stay in a five bedroom, five bathroom house, shared with other interns. Lunch is provided by Subway Watersports. Food for breakfast and dinner can be bought at large nearby supermarket and cooked in the fully stocked kitchen in the house. There is a restaurant and bar only a 5 minute walk from the house and several other local restaurants are nearby of various calibers and prices. The house has free wi-fi Internet, a daily maid service, TV and DVD player, washing machine, a large porch with hammocks and a beautiful ocean view, and so much more!
Additional nights at the intern house before or after your internship are available for $15 per night (space permitting).
Interns are not required to stay at the intern house. If you are looking for private or more upscale accommodation we are more than happy to assist in finding another place, with some options being available very close by!
Open Water diving certification is recommended, but not required. We can train those who have never even been under the water before, we just recommend a slightly long-term period.
If you are considering taking your Open Water Instructor Course, please be aware that PADI requires you to be Open Water certified for a minimum of six months before you can take your Instructor Exams.
We accept friendly, motivated, outdoorsy and fun water-lovers with a deep respect for nature.
The minimum age is 18 years. It is also important to be in moderate to good physical shape.
During the Internship you will also have the option to do any specialty diver courses at discounted prices, and afterwards continue your education by becoming an Assistant Instructor or Instructor.
Pick up when you arrive, accommodation, course fees from your level up to Divemaster, diving, equipment use and staff lunches at the resort are included in this adventure. We have been offering this internship since 2001 and seeing how much fun the interns have during their training and how successful they are working in the dive industry showed us that we are on the right track. We pioneered this type of internship in the Bay Islands and many shops are now copying our approach. We believe that becoming a dive professional during an internship gives you the most experience and shows you what life in the dive industry is all about. Subway Watersports is a PADI 5-Star Instructor Development Center, Green Star Award winner and the first National Geographic Dive Center in the Bay Islands of Honduras. Basically these titles mean, that we are following the highest quality standards set by PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors) and National Geographic.
We work closely with most of the other dive centers here on Roatan assisting them with their staffing needs. We have a constantly growing community of Divemasters and Instructors that have taken their new profession out to see the world. We provide references and resume/CV building advice and guidance, and offer job openings to our candidates when the fit is right.
