Patrick Zingg (†42)

PADI OWSI and founder of Subway Watersports

December 6th, 1969 – November 29th, 2012

The Subway Family will sincerely miss PADI OWSI and founder of the dive center Subway Watersports, Patrick Zingg, from Switzerland, who tragically died in Roatan, Honduras on November 29, 2012.

Patrick started his PADI career as Divemaster in 1998, in order to achieve his goal of traveling extensively in Central America. He was very focused on gaining the knowledge he needed in order to open his own Dive Center on the beautiful Island of Roatan. He worked for many years in several different Dive Centers on the Island, as both a dive instructor and a general manager before finally realizing his dream. Patrick opened his own Dive Center in 2001 with his business partner. As an owner of a 5 Star IDC Dive Resort, Patrick was able to use his influence and encouragement to create a platform for students to GoPro. His secret to his success was simply his in-depth knowledge of the sport, his wonderful customer service, and his ability to repair and rebuild any motor.

Patrick was truly a hero to many people. Though he endured several setbacks through the years, he was determined to start over again and again, always finding new solutions. Patrick’s helping hand, readily given without a lot of words, was appreciated by many people. He lived his dream for the past 15 years.

A neighbor and friend of his said, “I was trying to think of a way to capture Patrick’s character. While I was searching for words, in that still moment of pondering… a breeze picked up and surrounded me. All at once I realized that Patrick was like a Caribbean breeze… the east wind, the very air around us.”

Patrick is survived by his parents Rosmarie and Werner Zingg, his staff and a lot of friends, all of whom miss him very much.

Rest in peace Patrick!
