Markus Daase, Switzerland

Hey, my name is
Markus; I am Swiss and work as project manager in the logistics
industry. I had my first diving experience in a cold muddy Swiss
lake in 2008 and realized after three trips to the red sea in
2011 that diving is becoming more than just a hobby for me. My
company gave me the chance to take a four month time out, so I
will stuff my backpack with a lot of exiting experiences for
life during my divemaster and afterwards in the instructor
course. And the best part of it: it’s in a beautiful hot country
and in WARM water! J
I can imagine to become a course director one day and to start
running my own diving business somewhere in this world. It’s
still a looooong way to go but I am ready for this challenge!
In Switzerland I am also a certified paragliding pilot and fly
the whole year from beautiful Swiss alps (7’000 up to 10’000
feet). I will thank my wife that she gives me the opportunity to
follow my dreams and I can’t wait until she’s joining me in
Roatan after finish of my courses.

Kelsey Hartman, USA
Hi, I'm Kelsey,
from San Francisco, California. I'm currently a senior at Smith
College, studying Biology and Marine Science & Policy. I'll have
just graduated when I start the internship this summer, and I
can't think of a better way to celebrate than this dive
adventure! I learned to dive in Indonesia this past summer, and
got my Open Water and Advanced Open Water certifications there.
I'm so excited to continue my diving education and explore a new
place!

Daniel McCarty, USA
Hi
my name is Dan. I live in Bartlett, Illinois and I cannot wait to
get back to traveling. I love the ocean and all the life it has in
it, I have spent a few years sailing around the world and swimming
and snorkeling in new and exotic locations but this is my first time
in the world of SCUBA and I am pretty excited. I am always looking
for a good time and a new adventure and think this is a great way to
spend my time before going to Cali. and finishing my schooling. I am
easy-going and pretty laid back, island life suits me just fine. I
cant wait to get to the island and learn and dive and meet everyone.

start this adventure! |

Nick
Bradford, UK
Born
in Singapore, the son of a British Royal Marine, I have had the
good fortune to live in Singapore, Saudi Arabia and South
Africa, Traveling with my family to my fathers’ postings. Whilst
in these countries, I developed a good knowledge of the
Languages and the cultures. This is also where my earliest
memories of Diving began, under the instruction of British Royal
Marines. I completed my education in Britain, and shortly after,
Joined the British Armed forces where I stayed for 4 ½ years,
During my time in the armed forces I learnt to Dive under the
supervision of the British Su aqua Club, I spent 2 years
stationed in Germany, Where I learnt to Speak German. I left the
Armed forces after loosing friends in a bombing attack that left
them dead and me hospitalized for three months. In the interim I
had a couple of kids and took a different career path, which is
where I met my wife, my soul mate. I introduced my wife to the
joys of Scuba through P.A.D.I. and we took a trip to The
Maldives, I’ve thought about little else since really. We
immigrated to Canada in 1999. My wife is the one who made me
realize that revisiting this dream to become a Dive Instructor
is possible and I am thrilled at the opportunity to return to a
career path that I felt had slipped me by. I look forward to
getting started.

Brandon Henshaw, USA
My
name is Brandon, from the United States. I have not yet logged my first
dive, but Roatan is at the end of my planned 6 month long adventure visiting
countries around the world (other stops include South Africa, Thailand, and
Japan), and I plan on achieving my advanced PADI license before then. I
currently work as a contractor for the U.S. military in Afghanistan. I am a
fun loving adventurous person who never says no to the opportunity to have a
new fun experience. |
George Zelenkov,
USA
Hi my name is
George, I am from Cleveland, OH. Ever since my first dive when I was 13, I
have fallen in love with scuba diving. Since then I have logged over 100
dives, mostly in Cozumel and Grand Cayman. After obtaining my rescue diver
certification last August, and some life changes I have decided I want to
work in the scuba diving world. After completing my dive master
certification, I plan on getting my IDC, and possibly specialty instructor
all with Subway Watersports.

Matthew Berg,
USA
Hey
my name is Matt, from Telluride Colorado. Super excited to get to
Roatan and get underwater. I've been ski bumming and travelling for
the last 5 years, I haven't yet been to Central America or the
caribbean. My last few excursions underwater were in some more
challenging conditions which is why I'm interested in gaining more
experience through this course, and thirsty to explore new
underwater locations. See you all in a few weeks! |
Fletcher Leonard, USA
Hey, my name is Fletch Leonard. I live in
Birmingham, Alabama or Austin, Texas depending on which day of
the week you ask. I have been diving for 10 years, and would do
it everyday if I could. Hence the trip to Roatan to actually do
it everyday! I dove with Subway in Roatan last year and enjoyed
my time there and the people that I have met. Its a beautiful
place and has the relaxed atmosphere that I crave. While its
gonna be difficult to leave my loved ones and responsibilities
for the 2 months that I will be there, I cant think of anything
I would rather leave it for! See ya soon and cant wait to make
new friends!

Philip
Ong, Canada
Hola
a todos!
I’m a recent graduate
for Environ-mental Science Program at Dalhousie University in Nova
Scotia, Canada. My family moved to Canada about 5 years ago so I got
to experience the Atlantic Winter quite a bit. I was certified as
open water 2 years ago but diving in cold water is not my favourite
thing to do. I went to Cuba on an expedition with Operation Wallecea
and felt in love with diving in warm water and Caribbean reef. I
decided that I need to get more qualification because it can open
doors for me to work in warm places and I love spending time in the
ocean. Seeing many of my dive instructors going to exotic places in
the Caribe, Asia, and Australia to work and dive, I decided that I
want to do the same thing. I love to travel, to see now places and
to meet new friends. My dream, for now anyway, is to work and dive
in the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. My dream job would be
bumming around NGOs around the globe and working to preserve the
barely-anything-left pristine reef. Maybe unrealistic but it does
not cost a cent to dream so ;)
I am looking forward
to meeting everyone! |

Bart van Dyk, Canada
Open
water certified in 2006 in Cuba and hooked on Scuba diving
ever since. Hey, I’m Bart from Kamloops B.C., but originally from the
Netherlands. After mandatory military service with a stint in Lebanon for
the UN, I became a ‘Trans Africa Expedition Leader’ for Guerba Expeditions,
a British adventure tourism company and criss-crossed Africa for a good part
of the 1980s. While in Kenya one of my Canadian passengers
became my wife and next thing I knew, we lived in Canada. I
received a degree in Biological Sciences from the University of
Calgary and have since worked and owned businesses in the
hospitality industry here in British Columbia. In the last few
years I have logged about 35 dives in Cuba, Mexico and Belize.
Love that warm water, have yet to log my first cold water dive.
Our daughter will be off to university this summer opening up
the perfect opportunity for me to pursue my diving passion.
Although I have yet no idea what this internship is going to
lead to, secretly I sometimes dream of a dive shop in a warm
climate nestled on a beautiful sandy beach. All in all I’m very
excited about participating in this internship and as most
adventures, it is going to be a great life enriching
experience.

John Krull,
USA
Hello,
I’m John from Northern Illinois and am experien-ced in Open Water
Advanced Pumpkin Carving! My 1st diving experience is
credited to my oldest daughter & son-in-law who introduced me to
diving on the Island of St. Croix with a discovery diving excursion.
From that day forward I eat, sleep & dream about the incredible
events of underwater adventures. My two younger daughters also
obtained their Open Water making us a 4/5’s scuba diving family.
Back in December 2011, myself & youngest daughter dove an old
abandon lead ore mine in Bonne Terre, Missouri, quite a chilly and
eerie experience. I’ve always been a Fish out of water and
appreciate this opportunity given to me by Subway Watersports in
becoming a Divemaster. Along with experiencing the exquisite
Caribbean waters of Roatan, I plan to photograph every possible
Marine animal available within camera lens range plus assist in
eradicating the menace “Lionfish” population affecting these Ocean
waters. A highlight while becoming a Divemaster will be meeting
everyone from different states & countries and the many
personalities making up the Intern house, I can’t wait to meet you
all! |

Rich Walley, USA
I
am a recent graduate of Missis-sippi State University, where I received a
Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences. Before I continue my education in
dental school, I want to see the world and experience something incredible.
This internship will allow me to do both. I have a very adventurous
spirit, and I enjoy being outdoors as much as possible. I have been diving
for four years, and I have three certifications with PADI (Open Water, Adv.
Open Water, and Nitrox). I am looking forward to joining the professional
dive community by obtaining my Divemaster certification, and the Subway
Watersports internship appears to be the best way to do so. I can't wait to
meet new people, and spend the summer in paradise!

Sarah Stein, USA
Hi!
My name is Sarah Stein and I more commonly go by my nickname – Rae Rae. I
grew up in the desert in Tucson, Arizona and have lived in beautiful Santa
Barbara, California for the past 3 years where I am studying marine biology.
I believe many unexplored secrets await us beneath the water and I would
love to spend the rest of my life learning about and exploring the beauty
and life contained within our ocean. I had one great dive experience in
Hawaii several years ago, and just received my open water certification in
March 2011. I am super excited for my first big trip outside of the United
States and am looking forward to a slower placed style of life with people
who share similar interests and different backgrounds. |

Sean Allen, USA
I
was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia. My
greatest passion in life is experiencing new things. No matter what they
may be, I'm always looking for new adventures. I've spent a great deal
of time in Central America, and absolutely love this area of the world.
I dove for the very first time in Roatan, Honduras back in 2003. Since
then, I was certified in Monterey, California. I lived there for about a
year and a half and absolutely fell in love with SCUBA (despite the
freezing cold water). I'm very much looking forward to meeting new
friends and making new, unforgettable memories. See y'all this summer! |
Jenn
Dahl, USA
I'm so excited to share some ahh-mazing experiences in Roatan with everyone!
I currently skydive, paraglide, base jump and surf in the beautiful state
of California. I've been fortunate enough to dive in Australia, Nicaragua
and Costa Rica and even very cold glacier fed lakes in Idaho. I volunteer
at the Monterey Bay Aquarium as a guide, spreading random interesting facts
and conservation tips, as well as work at a veterinary hospital. Blue
Skies! |

Midwestern United States, and I got certified for Open Water and Advanced

Simon Belzil, Canada
Bonjour!
I am Simon from Montreal. My friends call me Sim B. (pronounced Simbay). I'm
a French Canadian and I've had a band for many years and now that I have
some time off, I thought the timing was perfect to see the world! I am Open
Water certified since two years now and I'm really looking forward to
becoming a divemaster! As you may know, Montreal has rough winters and cold
weather half of the year so I can't wait to spend some time under the
burning sun of Roatan! I do a little bit of amateur underwater photography
and I can't wait to shoot the magnificent fauna of Roatan. I'm a very
positive person and very easy to be with. Can't wait to meet y'all !

Hey
everybody, my name is Max from the Twin Cities, Minnesota. I am currently
studying for my PhD in aerospace engineering at UT Austin. I have been
diving for almost 3 years now and am excited to get my divemaster. I am
currently advanced open water with 42 dives and have also taken TDI
deco/adv. nitrox. I helped teach the underwater portions of a scuba class at

would help. The lakes here are alright, but I am excited to come to Roatan
for the warm, clear waters! |

Hi
my name is Kevin Haycraft. I live with two younger brothers and my Mom and
Dad. I attended St Mary Basha Catholic School 1st thru 8 grade. I
attended Seton Catholic for my High School years. I am currently attending
Chandler Gilbert Community college and will complete my associate’s degree
in Science by this June. I am hoping to attend Arizona State University to
obtain my undergraduate degree in Biology. I was in cub scouts and remained
in Boy Scouts until I finished my Eagle project in 2009. I have been a
lifeguard at the Y.M.C.A , City of Chandler and Lifetime fitness. I still
currently work at the last two mentioned. Last year I obtained my W.S.I
enabling me to teach children to swim. Since I was very little fish seem to
be a big obsession with me. My parents gave me a big fish tank when I was
still in a high chair and I would watch them for hours. My Parents own a
fishing boat and we frequent the lake (Roosevelt) whenever possible. I am
very fortunate to get this opportunity and can not wait for September 1st
